The annual Club Presentation evening was held on Sunday in the Tatalia No. 1 at the Rich River Golf Club Resort. Approximately ninety members and guests enjoyed the beautiful meal and a fun filled event. Guests of the evening included RRGCR Chairman Ken Peat and wife Margaret, RRGCR CEO Wayne Sutton and wife Kaye, Life members Jim Stapleton and wife Nell, John Hewlett and wife Mona together with Athol Brown and wife Phyl. Club Secretary Mal Whyte introduced the respective Club Presidents Barry Brown and Dawn Armstrong to the large gathering. Armstrong then proceeded to present the awards for season 2011-012. Club champion: Lyn Barker. Runner Up: Liz Nicholls. Minor Singles: Dot Bremner. R/u: Stella Woods. 100 Up: Lyn Barker. R/u: Stella Woods. 21 Up: Wilma Williams. R/u: Liz Nicholls. Pairs: Lyn Barker – Liz Nicholls. R/u: Margaret Griffiths – Eileen Pineo. Daisy Taylor Selected Pairs: Pat Reid – Bernadette Johns. R/u: Margaret Griffiths – Betty Linquist. In the mens section the club champion was Stan Barker (fifth time). R/u: Barry Downer. Minor Singles: Graeme Moffatt. R/u: Trevor Nagorcka. 100 Up: Roy Jackson. R/u: John James. 21 Up: Stan Barker. R/u: Trevor Nagorcka. Pairs: Stan Barker – Mel Velt (CVBD Champion of champions). R/u: Roy Jackson – KD Martin. Selected Fours: Robert Taylor, Barry Downer, John James, and Des Sehestedt. R/u: Don Alden, Trevor Nagorcka, Alan Linquist, and Brian White.

Club President Barry Brown presented the Waverley Shield and Willis Shield to Ken Peat. Another highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Clubman of the Year. Brown highlighted the excellent effort as shown by the recipient Jim Bertram during the past twelve months. Suffering several months of ill health Bertram was always available when possible to assist with the general office routine and fund raising. Bertram responded in a gracious manner and looked forward to be playing more pennant games in the future. The crowd applauded with great appreciation.
On the bowling greens, the Jackpot Pairs proved popular in the ideal weather conditions that prevailed. Alan Ash and Daryyl Wood (s) eclipsed the field on 56 points to win the event. KD Martin and Roy Jackson (s) survived a count-back to claim second place with 55 points plus 17 shots ahead of Bruce O’Neale – Stan Barker (s) 55 +15 shots. Other two game winners included Lino Priamo – Hugh Davies (s) 54 points along with John Hausler – Rob Sceney (s) 54 and Paul Kearney – Brian Kearney (s) 54. Trevor Nagorcka and Max Kosch (s) suffered a severe shock loss in the first game only to rebound and collect the voucher on plus 20 shots from Mel Velt – Murray Barrett (s) +13 and Neville Brereton – Geoff Walker (s) +1.
Neville Vise and Graeme Moffatt on plus 8 won the keno game from Doug Jay and visitor Ian Price minus 2. Bruce O’Neala and Neville Brereton shared the raffle prizes. There will be no jackpot Pairs next week – May 16th (Moama May carnival).
At the Indoor bowls on Wednesday evening Bill Musgrove was back in form to skip the winning team comprising Mary McKenzie, Bev Lynch and Elwyn Ledwidge to a resounding victory from second placed Ian Thomlinson, Bonnie Swindells, Mary Rouw and Heather Smith. The club hosted the Association Mixed Fours event last week.
Last Tuesday the club welcomed bowlers from Donvale, Lorne and Colac Bowling Clubs to a brilliant afternoon on the greens. Ninety-eight bowlers were in action on perfect true running greens. Individual winners from each club included – (Donvale) Peter Hanslow, Cheryl McAnally, Frank Smit and Barbara Drew. (Lorne – Colac): Frank Witham, Clive Wilmott, Donna Rice and Kevin Weir. For Rich River the best performed were Keith Robertson, Ken Marwood, Geoff Rayner and Joyce Brereton.
On Saturday the Super Pairs attracted a quality field to do battle. In form Stan Barker (s) and the leader off all leaders KD Martin finished on 16 ends in a real demolition job to land the main trophies. The repechage went to Bill Toll and Dale Toogood (s) 12 ends while the mystery draws favored Barry Downer, Lino Priamo, Eugene Xodo, Ken Marwood and John Armstrong. Graham Ryan was emotional in collecting the raffle prize.
The women have hibernated in the winter warmth for their regular season of Indoor bowls on a Tuesday starting at 11.00am.
Saturday Super Pairs will have a restricted field this weekend as the Moama May carnival commences on Saturday with the Mixed Fours using our green.
The next CVBD Delegates meeting is scheduled for Thursday 17th May 2012.
