Twenty-eight teams competed in the weekly Jackpot Pairs on Wednesday as bowlers experienced the best in conditions. Count-backs were the order of the day as all place-getters were decided by the shots-up method. KD Martin and Roy Jackson (s) survived after scoring 59 points and plus 38 shots ahead of Robert “Sam” King and Bill Toll (s) 59 points +36 shots (how close!). Third place went to Neville Brereton and Robert Taylor (s) 56 points +12 shots from Ken Maynard – Alan Jones (s) 56 points +3 shots. Trevor Evans – Geoff Stevens (s) finished on 53 points. Trevor Nagorcka and Mel Velt (s) collected the voucher on plus 21 shots and ten shot buffer from Barry Roberts – Mike Holmes (s) +11 shots. Barry Brewster – John James (s) finished on +10, Les Grills – Bob Jarvis (s) along with Ron Bentley – Eugene Xodo (s) had +9, Warwick Stiles – Charlie Pavone (s) +7 and Jim Preston – Howard Lake (s) +6. The keno game for a tie and a win was won by Max Bidgood – Noel Dixon (s) +15 shots from Alan Ash – George Thornley (s) +3. Raffle winners: 1st Renn Ritchie, 2nd. Graeme Kelly

On Thursday evening the first round of the Night Pennant series was held and attracted 66 players in warm conditions. As the evening games unveiled the conditions were very pleasant under lights. Co-organisers John Stuart and Ken Marwood were congratulated on fielding the 22 teams in combat. At the end of the scheduled two games of ten ends, Neil Faulkhead, Colin Douglas and Darren Mills (s) 34 points won the spoils with Pam Holmfield, Bill Holmfield and Graeme Edgar (s) on 33 points taking out second place ahead of Nancy Goldrick, Di Simons and Roy Berryman (s) 32 points. The other two-game winner was Colleen Bosse, David Humphrys and Tony Berg (s) 31 points. Wine winners were Roseanne Sharp and David Humphrys. There will be no Night Pennant tomorrow evening due to the Australia day celebrations.

In the mid-week pennant division one lost to City of Echuca by 30 shots with all rinks down and are currently holding fifth place on the ladder. Division two journeyed to Rochester and returned home with one rink win but losing 69-77 to stay in sixth position. The two division three sides had a great battle at home with Rich River Green winning both rinks for a 53-37 victory over Rich River Blue. The CVDB pennant results showed a 75% winning ratio with four teams out of six victorious. Division one had two rinks up and two down as they defeated Rochester 98-77 to leap into third place on the premiership ladder. Keep up the good work. Division two traveled to Rochester and lost 85-119 while division three won a thriller against Rochester by one shot 66-65 and one rink up to stay in the four. The two division four teams recorded fine victories as Green collected the points following a 82-57 win against Rochester to keep their finals aspirations alive in fifth place and White had eight shots to spare against Moama Teal 76-68 to remain second. Division five lost both rinks in their battle with Tongala to finish 46-56.     

Yesterday the women fielded a healthy 31 players in the weekly social bowls. Bernadette Johns, Lois Robson, Heather Freeman and Liz Nicholls (s) won the spoils from new bowler Lyn Evans, Cath McKenzie, Judy Vise and Margaret Spinks (s).

Today the club Championship Pairs will be played commencing at 12.30pm. Current champions Mel Velt and Stan Barker (s) will be seeking back-to-back while their opponents KD Martin and Roy Jackson (s) will be aiming to collect the title. 

On Sunday the Champion of Champions in both CVBD Singles and Pairs will beheld at Rich River. Best of luck to our club champion Stan Barker. 

Entries are being accepted for the Norm Knopp star Fours tournament to be held on Sunday 5th February at 9.30am. The field will be limited to 28 teams. Contact Bowls Coordinator Chris Stewart 5481 3390 for details.

A date for the diary is Sunday 4h March re. the Rich River – Picola 2 bowl Mixed Triples (any combination) starting at 1.00pm.

Play started at 9.30am and was soon stopped due to rain.

Play continued at 11.20am and all three games were played on the day which ended at about 6.30pm
